How dark are my lenses? Sunglasses lens categories

Wondering how dark our sunglasses are? Or what is the best lens darkness category to protect your eyes from the sun? All ro•sham•bo baby sunglasses lenses are Category 3 in terms of darkness, which falls into line with the European standard for UV protective sunglasses and also meet regulated United States safety standards. All of our sunglasses also have polarized lenses, which provides 100% protection against UVA, UVB and UVC rays.

ARE DARKER SUNGLASSES BETTER?

Did you know that dark lenses don't necessarily provide UV protection? The UV treatment applied to lenses does not cause them to appear dark or tinted. The dark or gray colored tint is to provide comfort to the eyes when outdoors, which is why we provide a category 3 of darkness on all of our lenses - gray and mirrored lenses.

WHY ARE POLARIZED LENSES BETTER?

Polarized lenses reduce glare and eye strain, while still delivering 100% UVA/B/C protection. We take kids eye protection seriously: as much as 50% of lifetime UV damage to your eyes occurs before the age of 10 and is irreversible - causing terrible longterm ailments!

WHAT ARE THE SUNGLASSES LENS CATEGORIES?

Lens Category 0: Fashion Sunglasses (81 - 100% light transmission)

These type of sunglasses are for fashion or indoor use. They are not considered "real" sunglasses, since they have a very low ability to reduce sun glare and provide limited or no UV protection.

Lens Category 1: Fashion Sunglasses (44 - 80% light transmission)

Like category 0 lenses, these are not considered "real" sunglasses and are for low sun exposure. However, they do provide limited sun glare reduction and some UV protection. Fashion sunglasses with category 1 lenses are not recommended for driving at night.

Lens Category 2: Sunglasses (19 - 43% light transmission)

These sunglasses provide a medium level of sun glare reduction and good UV protection.

Lens Category 3: Sunglasses (9 - 18% light transmission)

The best you can get for standard sunglasses. Sunglasses with category 3 lenses provide a high level of sun glare reduction and good level of UV protection against strong sun brightness and light reflected off of water or snow. All ro•sham•bo baby sunglasses lenses are Category 3 in terms of darkness.

Lens Category 4: Sunglasses (3 - 8% light transmission)

These are special-purpose sunglasses that provide a very high level of sun glare reduction and good UV protection. Never wear them while driving.

WHY IS THIS SO IMPORTANT?

UV damage is just as much of a concern for your eyes as it is your skin! Children run an increased risk of UV damage to their eyes because their lens is still clear and the pupil is wider than in adults. As much as 50% of lifetime UV damage to your eyes occurs before the age of 10 and is irreversible - causing terrible longterm ailments! Roshambo baby polarized sunglasses help shield your baby's eyes from the suns harmful UV rays.

What are the benefits of polarized lenses?

UV 400 Protection - 100% UVA/B/C protection

They provide 100% protection against UVA, UVB & UVC rays.

Polarized - Reduce eye strain & glare

Light waves travel in different directions: vertical light helps us to see but horizontal light creates glare which restricts our vision. Glare is created when light rays bounce off a horizontal shiny surface such as water, sand, snow, or roads.

Polarized lenses allow IN the vertical light providing us with clear vision but they also have a special filter to keep OUT and absorb the horizontal light caused by glare.

Durable - Multi layered for scratch & shatter resistance

Along with our unbreakable frame material, we chose a lens technology that is also virtually unbreakable and highly impact resistant. Have you seen our video where we run over our TAC polarized sunglasses with a car? If these shades can handle that, then they can handle your toddler and all of the wear and tear that comes with kids!
